Govt Shares MW2063 with CUNIMA

Malawi Government through the National Planning Commission (NPC) on Wednesday 3rd February,2021 officially presented the Malawi Vision 2063 to the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) as the commission seeks partnership with the University.

NPC’s Partnerships Resource Mobilisation Manager Jennifer Mjuweni said the Commission is eying the institutions of higher learning such as CUNIMA in helping the country with quality Human Capital through provision of right skills to students.

Mjuweni also challenged institutions of higher learning in the country to be conducting research that can help in identify gaps as the nation strives to transform into a wealth and self-reliant industrialized upper middle-income country by the year 2063.

“We are not leaving anyone behind as we go along, the Vision incorporates all the sectors and Education is included,  we need your assistance in the implementation of this Vision of our country but also urging the University that moving forward whatever plans the University has, must be aligned to the Vision 2063” Said Mjuweni.

The Catholic University of Malawi Registrar, Francis Vincent Nkhoma, commended the commission for sharing the Vision with University saying Malawi needs collective effort to develop.

Nkhoma further urged the commission to ensure that the country is safeguarding the resources the country has for the benefit of many Malawians.

“We have resources in this country that can transform this country, we just need to utilize these resources responsibly. Our colonial masters proved it, that is why they were scrambling for Africa. They knew African continent is blessed with resources” said

Nkhoma further challenged the commission to strive on successful implementation of the new vision as Vision 2020 was reported to have hit the wall on implementation.

In the next 42 years, Malawi plans to develop and implement resource mobilization efforts that will enable the country to create its own wealth and only to borrow for investments with high economic returns.

Malawi’s vision 2063 relies on shoulders of three pillars namely: Agricultural Productivity and commercialization, Industrialization and Urbanization.
