ECM appoints new Vice Chancellor for Catholic University

The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has appointed Professor Francis Moto as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi.

In a Press Release that has been signed by the Chairperson of ECM who is also the Chancellor of the University Most Rev. George Desmond Tambala, Professor Moto’s appointment is effective January 1, 2025.

“Professor Moto is a distinguished academic and administrator with an impressive career spanning several decades” Reads Part of the Press Release.

Professor Moto holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) from the University College in London and a Masters in Linguistic from the  School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London and he has demonstrated exemplary leadership having served as Principal of Chancellor College now University of Malawi, High Commissioner in London and Ambassador in Brazil.

The new Vice Chancellor also holds several book publications including; Red Mask Dancer of Golomoti: an Interpretation, Five poems in the Chichewa language just to cut short the long list. He has also published several journals with reputable publishers around the globe.

Professor Moto becomes the fourth Vice-Chancellor of the University following the sudden death of Associate Prof. Ngeyi Ruth Kanyongolo who died in October 2024 after a short illness after serving in the office for eight months.
